Copper Hearth Stands
the dwarfhouse with the fight-platform
Thick stone walls and a low, smoke-darkened ceiling fold you in like a wool cloak. Five stout round tables fill the room, each scarred by tankards and axe-butts; behind the bar, a polished oak counter gleams, and a raised oak platform takes up one corner — flattened leather straps, blood-worn rope, and a ring of scorched straw marking the fighting circle. The scent is roasted root vegetables, warm barley, and waxed leather. Lantern light pools in golden circles; the chatter is friendly, sometimes loud, full of clipped Dwarvish jokes and the clink of coin. The crowd is mostly city craftsmen, a few wandering sellswords and an old miner who never leaves his chair. Folks here settle arguments with a fist or a wager rather than law papers; the keeper settles debts with a nod and a plate of stew. Even on slow nights the place feels lived-in: a family portrait of long-dead hold-foremen hangs crooked, and a battered shield above the hearth bears five shallow dents made in celebration — or in apology.
A hammered copper ring suspended from an iron bracket; the metal is burnished bright where hands have touched it for years. No lettering, only a small carved mallet and a single rune for 'safety' at the ring's center.

1
Old Harn claims the Hollow Forge beneath Stonebridge holds a rusted family hammer called Ironbrow; he says the way to it is through a collapsed kiln shaft under the southern cistern.
2
Selbin Kettlewick whispers that a broker named Marrek Halden has a secret ledger listing the Copper Hearth Stands as collateral and that Halden sent a 'collector' to town this week.
3
Rook of the Red Band says a travelling noble, Lady Jex Mire, is seeking fighters for a private bout where the prize is a carved starglass shard said to grant a single truth-seeing vision.
