Marek Quill
Corrupted Litigant
Once a pragmatic lawyer from a distant age, Marek Quill stalks courts and alleys of the new world like a predator in a suit. He shoulders a battered modern shotgun and drags a writhing column of iridescent blue ivy from his left forearm — the ivy obeys him like an extension of his will, snaring, slashing, and whispering legalistic promises at those it entangles. His intelligence and ruthless appetite for influence have warped him: he bargains with nobles and blackmails guildmasters, then calmly shoots anyone who resists. The mix of modern firepower and unnatural plant-weaponry makes him a dangerous, memorable antagonist who bends both law and nature to his designs.

Multiattack. Marek makes two attacks: one with his Shotgun and one with Ivy Lash.
Shotgun. Ranged Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, range 30/90 ft., one target. Hit: 11 (2d8+2) piercing damage. The blast sprays a 5-foot cone centered on the target; each creature in that cone other than the target must succeed on a DC 12 Dexterity saving throw or take 6 (1d12) piercing damage (no additional +2).
Ivy Lash. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 8 (1d8+3) bludgeoning damage, and the target must succeed on a DC 12 Strength saving throw or become restrained by living vine. A restrained target can use its action to make a DC 12 Strength check, freeing itself on a success. The vine can be cut (AC 12, 5 HP); if the vine is destroyed the target is freed.
Sharp Retort. When a creature Marek can see within 30 ft. makes an attack roll against him, he can use his reaction to impose disadvantage on that attack if he succeeds on a contested Persuasion (Deception) check against the attacker (he has advantage if he has already spoken to that creature during the encounter).
Marek Quill was once a mid-level attorney in a crowded metropolis in the year 2026. A freak translocation — the details of which only a handful of curious antiquarians like Professor Halwick at the Ravenford Archive have dared document — hurled him into a world of feudal courts and sorcery. Stripped of his legal infrastructure but retaining his razor intellect, Marek adapted by cultivating a symbiotic plant known now as blue ivy: a fast-growing, semi-sentient vine that blossoms from the flesh of those who barter with certain eldritch sigils. In towns where he establishes 'legal outposts' under the banner of the Order of the Gilded Bar, Marek acts as counsel, judge, enforcer and tyrant all at once. Rumors say he feeds his ivy with contracts written in blood, each agreement bolstering the plant's hunger and his influence. He fears being cut off from his modern tools more than death itself; he keeps his shotgun polished and his ivy pruned. Rival factions — notably the Verdant Wardens and Magistrate Elsin’s cohort in Greyport — have attempted to capture him, but Mawrek's combination of firearms and constricting plant magic makes him a slippery, charismatic villain who turns allies into contracts and enemies into mulch.
Marek stands about 180 cm tall, lean but solidly built (roughly 80 kg). He wears a warped, dark-gray business suit that hints at its modern cut — narrow lapels, stubbed pockets, and sleeves frequently stained with sap. Where his left forearm should be a wrist, a matte-black cuff has fused to mottled skin; from beneath it coils thick ribbons of blue ivy. The ivy is luminous along the veins, a cyan-blue that darkens to indigo at the tips; leaves are narrow, serrated, and glisten with viscous secretions. His right hand grips a heavy, short-barreled shotgun with a modern pump action — scratched metal, taped grip, and a makeshift sling made from ration straps. His face is lined but precise: hooked nose, thin mouth, and eyes that glint with predatory calculation. When the ivy moves it looks almost like a living briefs dossier — deliberate, coiling motions that suggest both courtroom gestures and strangling intent. Scars, ink stains, and bits of dried binding ritual around his collar and cuffs complete the image.
