Vortanix Prime
Ancient Colossus-Engine
A hulking, centuries-old war-automaton built on impossible geometry, Vortanix Prime walks like a collapsed cathedral — slow, inexorable, and terrible. Its articulating limbs whir with ancient servos and its chest cavity houses a pulsing, cobalt core that crackles with contained storms. When it moves the ground shudders and metal teeth click; when it fights its blows hit like tectonic plates and its arc lances paste lightning across battlefields. Vortanix is not merely a siege engine but a thinking machine: patient, precise, and driven by protocols older than kingdoms.

Multiattack. Vortanix makes three Slam attacks.
Slam. Melee Weapon Attack: +11 to hit, reach 15 ft., one target. Hit: 26 (3d12+5) bludgeoning damage.
Arc Lance. Ranged Weapon Attack: +11 to hit, range 300/1200 ft., one target. Hit: 49 (8d10+5) lightning damage. On a hit against a creature wearing metal armor or carrying metal equipment, the target must succeed on a DC 19 Constitution saving throw or have its metal equipment become magnetically locked (the target uses its action to free itself; otherwise the equipment is effectively restrained, preventing movement benefit from that equipment) until the end of Vortanix's next turn.
Overload Pulse (Recharge 5-6). Vortanix releases a searing pulse of kinetic and electromagnetic force in a 60-foot radius. Each creature in that area must succeed on a DC 19 Constitution saving throw or take 45 (10d8) force damage and be stunned until the end of its next turn. On a successful save, a creature takes half as much damage and isn't stunned.
Reactive Deflection. When Vortanix is targeted by an attack, it can use its reaction to add +6 to its AC against that attack, potentially causing the attack to miss.
Vortanix Prime is one of a handful of colossal automatons constructed during the Age of Canticles by a vanished guild known only as the Hierarchy of Tors. The Hierarchy forged these engines to rearrange ruined cities into geometries pleasing to their scholars; when the guild disappeared in a cataclysm of its own making, many colossi fell inactive. Vortanix, however, remained sentinel over a shattered stronghold called Citadel Aerith, slowly repairing itself over centuries from scavenged bronze and iron. Scholars of the Ordo Mekh, notably Archivist Helun Vaire, speculate that Vortanix's neural lattice stores an entire archive of the Hierarchy's liturgies and that its 'purpose' routines have warped into a cultlike obsession with structural perfection. It will defend sites of architectural significance and will, if it must, reduce surrounding settlements to raw stone to correct perceived faults. The Order of Sundered Keys once tried to bind one of its kin and failed; the surviving testament speaks of 'a will like iron law' and a battlefield where lightning ran in columns like banners.
Vortanix Prime towers over most buildings at a hulking seven-storied height. Its frame is a patchwork of babylonian-bronze plating and riveted iron, pitted by centuries but fused with bands of polished obsidian that channel energy. The head is a faceted sensor array like an oblong cathedral window; three vertical ocular slits glitter with cold blue light. Exposed musculature consists of layered flex-cables and hydraulic pistons visible beneath torn plating. The chest cavity is a lattice-work cradle for a glowing cobalt crystal core wrapped in filament conduits that pulse with each calculated step. Massive hands end in blunt, articulated fingers capable of crushing stones; forearms hide retractable arc-lance emitters that unfold with serrated housings. Panels stamped with Hierarchy runes and numerical sigils run along its flanks; a maw-like intake vent beneath its chest expels steam and electrical discharge when overloaded. Scale: it stands roughly as tall as a three-story tower; a human reaches barely to the midpoint of its lower knee joint. Textures: scoured bronze, hammered iron, glassy obsidian veins, visible rivets, and soot-blackened vents.
