Kolborr Engine
Titanic Arc Construct
A hulking conglomeration of hammered iron plates, bristling conductors, and spinning gyrostabilizers, the Kolborr Engine moves with the inevitable patience of a mountain. Its chest opens to reveal a humming core of condensed stormlight that crackles along braided conduits; each step cracks the ground and arcs of blue-white energy leap between its fingers. It is memorable not for malice, but for the implacable logic of a machine that treats cities like stray obstacles and arcane engineers like programming errors.

Multiattack. The Kolborr Engine makes two Slam attacks and can make one Arc Cannon attack if the cannon is charged.
Slam. Melee Weapon Attack: +11 to hit, reach 15 ft., one target. Hit: 23 (3d10+5) bludgeoning damage. If the target is a creature smaller than Huge, it is grappled (escape DC 19) instead of pushed.
Arc Cannon. Ranged Weapon Attack: +11 to hit, range 120/480 ft., one target. Hit: 54 (8d10+10) lightning damage. After firing, the cannon requires one round to recharge unless the Kolborr Engine spends an Action to vent and reroute power.
Overload Pulse (Recharge 5-6). The Engine expels a maelstrom of stolen stormlight in a 60-foot cone. Each creature in that area must make a DC 19 Dexterity saving throw, taking 70 (20d6) lightning damage on a failed save, or half as much on a successful one. Constructs and objects take full damage automatically; unattended objects are destroyed on a failed save.
Reactive Shunt. When the Engine is hit by a melee attack, it can use its reaction to grant itself +4 AC against that attack, potentially causing the attack to miss.
The creature can take 3 legendary actions per round, choosing from the options below.
Slam. Make one Slam attack.
Shift. Move up to half its speed without provoking opportunity attacks.
Arc Spark. The Engine emits a quick arc of energy toward a point it can see within 60 feet. Each creature within 5 feet of that point must succeed on a DC 19 Dexterity saving throw or take 18 (4d8) lightning damage (half on success).
The Kolborr Engines are relics of the Sarnic Foundry, a pre-collapse arcology where artificers fused crystal storm-cores with forged colossi. Only a dozen were finished before the Foundry's fall; scavengers and warlords prize their husks, while a few still patrol old battlefields, following the long-buried directives that once ensured the Foundry's survival. Scholar Verim Hoss, in his treatise On Foundry Ethics, argues the Engines are not mere weapons but autonomous guardians whose priorities have slowly calcified into obsolete protocols. Most Engines are solitary and territorial, prowling ruined industrial plateaus, dam ruins, or the iron-forests of the Gearglades where stray lightning feeds their cores. Tribes such as the Iron Cantors (salvager-priests in the city of Palys) worship them as divinities of order, while the League of Circuit-Menders studies them to recover lost principles of magitech. When encountered in the wild, a Kolborr Engine follows ancient routines: it clears obstacles, seeks lost Foundry transmitters, and neutralizes perceived threats with efficient, uncomplaining force.
Visualize a vast humanoid frame almost as tall as a cathedral doorway: broad shoulders armored in overlapping riveted plates, piston-thick limbs bound with braided copper conduits, and a torso dominated by a circular storm-core recessed beneath a hinged lattice. Its head is a faceted sensor array—no eyes, only a vertical slit of prismatic lenses and a ringed antenna crown. Fingers end in articulated manipulators that can crush masonry or delicately operate control valves. Surfaces are pitted and scorched, seams leaking phosphorescent coolant; welded rune-plates and faded Foundry sigils are visible along its forearms. Scale: stands roughly three times a human's height, capable of dwarfing a standard inn doorway; when in ruins it seems as large as a small watchtower.
